Private Investigator Services

A private investigator’s job in today’s world is complex and multi-dimensional. If Sherlock Holmes investigated deaths, murders, and sabotages, the modern day private investigator is faced with a lot of challenges ranging from spousal faithfulness investigation to online fraud. As businesses and industries expanded, and computer and internet technology replaced personal dealings to online transactions, the possibilities of crime and subsequent investigations also increased. Traditionally, a private investigator’s services included spying on husband or wife, locating a missing person, investigating homicides and suspicious deaths, and tipping off the factory owners about impending strikes and labor unrest. But, now the private investigation service encompasses a vast range of activities like investigating anti-fraud work, protection of intellectual property and trade secrets, anti-piracy, copyright infringement investigations, due diligence investigations, computer forensics work, suspicious claims investigation for insurance companies, background check of customers and clients for banks, creditors, and other financial organizations, matrimonial investigation before and after marriage, process serves, skip tracing, technical surveillance countermeasures or Electronic Counter Measures, personal security or bodyguard details, etc. Though the private investigators can obtain information, and testify in court, they seldom arrest criminals. They must work within the law of the country and any breach would incur criminal charges.

Private investigators work either independently or for a private investigation agency. They also work with attorneys in civil cases; they help to gather evidence, locate witnesses, serve documents, interview police officers and witnesses in preparation for a case. Usually, a private investigator will be competent in one specific area of investigation. The job profile and nature of work for each specialized field of expertise require a different kind of approach. A private investigator involved in cyber crime tracking work mostly with computers whereas a cheating spouse investigation specialist physically follows the person to be investigated day in day out. Typically, a private investigator has irregular and odd working hours; the needs of their cases sometimes require them to carry weapons like handguns; however, they must have license to own and use them.

The services rendered by a private investigator company may cover all possible areas of crime or they may be specializing in a chosen field of investigation expertise. Some companies have a large number of investigators working for them; each of them will be experts in one operational area. In smaller private investigator companies, the investigators may undertake all kinds of sleuthing activities. A successful private investigator is one who can adapt to the changes in the industry effortlessly; he will always be equipped with the latest investigation method to serve his clients more effectively.
